Artist Bio - Judy Getz Buzzell

I began painting by taking Chinese Brush Painting at the Smithsonian Institution in 1999. After 3 years I discovered western watercolor and fell in love with it. I studied that 3 years in Alexandria VA. Since then I’ve done workshops with different artists and continued painting and creating. I teach Watercolor Painting in my studio, The Yellow Art Barn on North Shore Dr. in Delavan WI.
My most influential instructor (and best critic!) has been my son, Travis Getz. He’s been an artist from birth. I did crafts and all kinds of needlework and then as an empty-nester I decided to try my long denied wish, to begin painting. I paint flowers, birds, still life, portraits of my grandchildren and experimental art.
I began acrylic painting several years ago designing for The Polka-Dot-Palette Studio in Cary NC. I experiment with collage, mono printing, silk painting and jewelry making. For the last 2 years I’ve been taking pottery lessons. I continue to study Chinese Brush Painting.
Even more than the reward of expressing myself creatively is the fun of sharing my passion with others and showing them that they can paint, too. I’ve had students who have never picked up a paint brush come to class and go home with a finished painting they were proud of. I find art both rewarding and calming in this busy world.
